Xiaomi Redmi 2 Review: Best Budget Friendly Smartphone
Body Design:
After spending some time with Redmi 2 to discover what’s new in the phone and what are its unique features that are making other phones run for their money, we ascertained that the key highlight of this dual-SIM phone is that both its slots support 3G as well as 4G. While on the other hand, its competitor Moto E has one slot for 3G and other for 2G.
Apart from the 4G-capability, Xiaomi’s developers kept in mind the weight factor while designing the Redmi 2. This new family baby is thinner (9.2mm) and lighter (134gram) than any of the Xiaomi phones.
Processor:
This new release is powered by the 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor as compared to 1.6 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset in Redmi 1S. Redmi 2 also enjoys an upgraded 4.4.4 Android with MIUI 6.0 operating system as well than its predecessor Redmi 1S that runs on the Android 4.3-based MIUI 5.0 custom skin.
Design:
Examining Xiaomi Redmi 2’s design, there are hardly any changes that would come into notice. But, when given a closer look, the flash at the back has been repositioned, the micro USB connector that occupied space at the bottom has now been positioned to right and the bezel that surrounds display is a tad narrower. Redmi 2 fits perfectly in hand, that’s the buyer’s first choice.
Display and Memory
The display features of Redmi 2 are similar to its older siblings that include the 4.7-inch HD screen with DragonTrail glass, 8GB internal storage, extendable up to 32GB microSD card support and 1GB RAM along with connectivity options.
Camera
Given the price, the Chinese company has upgraded Redmi 2 with a great camera – both back and front. While it has 8MP rear camera that produces excellent quality pictures, the 2MP front camera is enabled with 720p video camera feature making clicking a pleasant experience.
Sound and Color Availability
Unlike its siblings, the audio results of Redmi 2 are impressive. They are not only loud but also clear. Also, the new baby is packed with a 2200mAh battery that is 10 per cent more than Redmi 1S.
Though the phone comes in five colors, Xiaomi will initially sell Redmi 2 in only two colors – grey and white. The rest colors will be released later on. The company, during launch, said that 30,000-40,000 units of phone will be available on launch day and buyers will be able to buy Xiaomi Redmi 2 via Airtel stores a few weeks past the first flash sale.
