Coolpad Note 3 Lite Review: Powerful Smartphone at a great price tag

Coolpad quickly gained popularity after its launch for being a feature rich yet affordable device that sported a fingerprint sensor at a not so high price. People went crazy about it and the sales were sky rocketing. However, for people running a little short on money who could not afford to buy the Coolpad Note 3, the manufacturer soon came out with a toned down version called the Coolpad Note 3 Lite. Wondering how the device fared out? We’ve done a review for that. So let’s get to it.

Build Quality:

The first thing you notice when you hold a device in your hand is the build and the Coolpad Note 3 Lite does not disappoint. The plastic might feel a little cheap at times but efforts have been made to make the device look better than a normal budget phone like the gold lining which runs around the phone and also around the camera lens and the fingerprint sensor.

Coolpad Note 3 Lite Front view

On the front you have a 5 MP camera with an LED notification light next to it above the 5-inch screen. Below the screen are three capacitive buttons which sadly are not backlit. The volume rockers are located on the left while the power button sits on the right of the phone.

The back is textured which offers a firm grip and eliminates the need for a skin. On the back rests the primary 13 MP camera with an LED flash, fingerprint sensor and the speaker.

Starting with the HD screen, the need for a full HD screen on a 5 inch panel; was greatly felt but other than that we had no issues with it. Viewing angles are good and the brightness too is decent. However, we think a little more brightness could have been a lot better. The touchscreen too is pretty responsive and does not show any lag, though it attracts fingerprints. A lot of them.

The fingerprint sensor was undoubtedly the best feature about the Coolpad Note 3 Lite. It work smoothly and we had no problem unlocking the phone using the sensor and it works from any angle. We even tried unlocking the phone with oily hands and that worked too, though we strongly recommend against it. You can register up to 5 fingerprints and even create custom actions for each and every one of them like launching various apps like the camera, dialer, contacts etc.

Moving on to the actual performance of the device, the Coolpad Note 3 Lite fared well with an AnTuTu score of 32,566 which by any means is good.

Coolpad Note 3 Lite Antutu Benchmark Score

The phone handles multi-tasking and heavy processing really well and we had no problem playing games such as the Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8 on the phone. The UI too is smooth and we faced no lags or accidental freezes during our time with the device. At any given point of time, there was about 1.8 GB(approx) free RAM available.

Coolpad Note 3 Lite Camera

Interestingly, the camera has been kept the same as in the Coolpad Note 3 and we cannot complain. The rear 13 MP camera captures landscape and macro shots beautifully in natural light. However, as soon as you switch to indoor or low light, the detail goes missing. You can also notice a bit of noise. The camera software offers many modes for you to choose from. The pro mode allows you to tweak the focus, ISO and exposure settings. The front 5 MP camera more than suffices for you social networking needs.

Coolpad Note 3 Lite Back Panel

The 2,500 mAh powerhouse that runs the device is more than enough to keep the device going round all day. Even with 4G usage, we managed to get a full day’s usage with about 11% battery left.

With a price tag of Rs. 6,999, there’s no other device offering 3 GB RAM, 16 GB storage with 32 GB expandable storage and a fingerprint sensor. Coolpad sure has set a new standard for entry level smartphones with the Note 3 Lite and the device is in no way an entry level except for the price. So if you’re looking for an entry level smartphone that is feature rich, look no further and purchase Coolpad Note 3 Lite today from
