Apple has finally kickstarted its new year with an event held on March 21, 2016 and as expected, the brand has launched a new iPhone besides the much awaited iOS 9.3 update. The event also saw a 9.7-inch iPad Pro and more affordable Apple Watch witness the daylight. However, it was the 4-inch iPhone SE that hogged the limelight. Earlier it was being speculated that the device is named iPhone 5SE and looking at the design of the handset, we feel that name would have been more apt. While many are predicting that since Apple has somehow disappointed smartphone buyers by quoting a hefty price tag, it would not take off in countries like India. Here is everything that you need to know about the new Apple iPhone SE.
Apple iPhone SE is practically iPhone 6S on the inside
There is a reason why Apple decided to discontinue iPhone 5S and launched iPhone SE with identical design. The Cupertino-based tech giant wants to retain the user base of smaller device like iPhone 5S and yet experience the cutting edge technology being offered by its high end Apple iPhone 6S. Apple claims that iPhone SE is the most powerful 4-inch smartphone till date and rightfully so. iPhone SE comes with the same A9 processor along with M9 motion coprocessor that features on the iPhone 6S. This handset also features the same 2 GB of RAM as its elder sibling. So there you have it, an iPhone 5S that performs like iPhone 6S. We could not be anymore happier.
Apple iPhone SE is aimed at those who prefer smaller display
According to Apple, it sold around 30 million iPhone 5S and 5 in 2015, which shows there is a large market for a smaller display device. The new iPhone SE is targeted at such users who would like to use an iPhone with latest specifications without spending a bomb on it. This new handset comes with the same 4-inch Retina display that featured on the iPhone 5S. This display features a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels, with a pixel density of 326 PPI. However, the brand has given a miss to the pressure sensitive 3D Touch technology that was introduced in iPhone 6S. This might disappoint some users, however, the display is a delight to watch.
Apple iPhone SE comes with the best camera in the lineup
The similarity between iPhone 6S and iPhone SE does not ends with the innards only as the new device also matches the imaging prowess of the iPhone 6S. Apple iPhone SE comes with the same 12 Megapixels rear camera with an aperture of f/2.2. The camera of this handset boasts of features like exposure control, burst mode, timer mode, five-element lens, hybrid IR filter, backside illumination sensor, improved noise reduction, face detection, and Geo-tagging, to name a few. The camera lens is also protected by sapphire crystal lens for durability. The front panel of the handset houses a 1.2 Megapixels Facetime camera with f/2.4 aperture and Retina flash.
SIRI is now always on and listening
This is one of the major features that was introduced by the brand in iPhone 6S, which allowed users to trigger SIRI without even picking up the handset. Older devices did not have this feature as it is only supported by A9 SoC + M9 motion coprocessor combination introduced in iPhone 6s. Since the new iPhone SE too has been equipped with the same processor, it also features the untethered SIRI. This means that unlike older iPhones, iPhone SE do not need to be plugged into a power source for Hey Siri to trigger. This means your smartphone can be lying on your bed or table away from you, a simple Hey Siri and voice commands will let you perform tasks like sending a text message or get information you are seeking.
Price
The price of the new Apple iPhone SE has been in a bit of quandary as Apple India first confirmed that the device will be attractively priced at INR 30,000. However, the brand later released a statement mentioning that the mobile price in India will come with an MRP of INR 39,000. This is still a lot cheaper than the iPhone 6S and offers more or less the same specifications. The price of the handset will be the driving factor for iPhone SE in handset market like India and China.
Conclusion
There is no doubt that the new iPhone SE happens to be a good move from the brand considering the demand for iPhone 5S. Now, Apple can offer the same device with more impressive performance chops at a price tag that is nearly half the price of current flagship. However, it will also be facing the heat from Apple iPhone 6, which is still selling in the market for a price tag of INR 35,000 for 16 GB variant.
