Oppo F1 Plus “The Selfie Expert” Review | Best Selfie Camera Smartphone ever

Back in January of this year, Smartphone manufacturer Oppo had announced that their new “F” lineup of Android Smartphones will be mainly focusing on camera performance. The first Smartphone to come out of the lineup was the Oppo F1, which was not a bad attempt, but with just an 8 MP front facing camera, it could not actually garner all the attraction that it required.

Now, Oppo is back with yet another Android Smartphone under the “F” lineup and the Smartphone is named the Oppo F1 Plus. Compared to other devices, where the Plus and Mini variants of a Smartphone may largely differ only in terms of screen sizes, the Oppo F1 Plus is a real upgrade that the original Oppo F1 wanted.

Design:
Design wise the Oppo F1 Plus closely resembles the Oppo R9 Plus which was recently launched in China before the Oppo F1 Plus model was showcased, which itself very much looks like the Apple iPhone 6/6s.

The device features an all aluminium unibody design and is quite thin at just 6.6 mm. Talking about the hardware specifications of the device, the device is sported by a 5.5 inch Full HD AMOLED display that gives out a PPI of 401. Moreover, the display glass is also protected with Gorilla Glass 4.

There is also a fingerprint scanner added to the home button of the Oppo F1 Plus, which is quite fast for the record.

The company claims the fingerprint scanner in the device to be able to scan a fingerprint and unlock the device by 0.2 seconds. Let aside the millisecond record, yes, the fingerprint scanner is indeed very fast in the Oppo F1 Plus Android Smartphone.

Hardware Specs:

Under the hood, the device is powered by a Mediatek Helio P10 processor, which is an octa core chipset clocked in at 2.0 GHz. There is 4 GB of RAM provided along with 64 GB of internal storage space with an MicroSD card slot for external storage expansion up to an additional 128 GB. All of this, is powered by a non removable 2850 mAh battery unit. The Android software running in the device is version 5.1 Lollipop along with Oppo’s custom built Color OS user interface on top.

Camera Segment:

The main attraction of the Oppo F1 Plus is indeed its camera. Hence, we cannot move on without mentioning the same. The rear camera sensor of the Oppo F1 Plus is of 13 MP resolution and f/2.2 sensor, whereas the front facing selfie shooter features a 16 MP sensor along with a f/2.0 sensor. The advantage that the front facing camera sensor has in terms of resolution and aperture size has given the Oppo F1 Plus the tagline, “The Selfie Expert“.

Performance:
Moving on to the actual performance of the device, the OPPO F1 Plus fared well with an AnTuTu score of  51975 which by any means is good.

AnTuTu Benchmark Score
The phone handles multi-tasking and heavy processing really well and we had no problem playing games such as the Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8 on the phone. The UI too is smooth and we faced no lags or accidental freezes during our time with the device. At any given point of time, there was about 2 GB(approx) free RAM available.

The Oppo F1 Plus is the first device to run Oppo’s Color OS v3.0 skin that runs on top of Android 5.1 Lollipop. As seen on most of the Smartphones from Chinese manufacturers, the skin looks very similar to that of iOS in terms of design, feel and functionality. The similarity in applications such as the camera launcher is very clearly visible.
As for the camera performance, both the rear as well as the front facing camera gives awesome shots in day light, the problem of getting noisier and soft photos when gone into lower to indoor lighting conditions prevail even with the Oppo F1 Plus.

Final Verdict:
Overall, the Oppo F1 Plus is indeed what Oppo wants it to be. An Android Smartphone with good hardware and software experience along with a great camera. Even though not an iPhone competitor, at the price point, the Oppo F1 Plus has one of the best front and rear camera combination.
