Show Drive Name after Drive Letter in Windows Explorer

You know that Windows 7 and Windows 8 are the most used OS out of Windows operating systems. You can find so many new features inside these OS’s. And there is nothing to spout. I am sure that this is also known for you that Registry Editor is a sensitive tool aka feature aka built-in system operator for any Windows operating system. You can do anything i.e. change the number of tile rows in Windows 8, disable Send To option from context menu, adjust the height and width of scroll bar and more. All those tasks could be done through Registry Editor.

Today I am going to show you this trick which is a simple registry tweak and nothing else. By default your system show the drive letter just after the drive name when you open Windows explorer. But there are also some people who point drives by making use of letter (C:, D: etc.). For them this is quite time spender to find the drive name because it appears after drive name. So, here is a complete solution for this crux.

How to show drive name after drive letter?

As you know that today I am going to show you this tweak via Registry Editor, don’t forget to create a backup file before applying any change.

At first open Registry Editor and navigate to the following options;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE  >> SOFTWARE >> Microsoft >> Windows >> CurrentVersion >> Explorer

In the right pane, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value and enter ShowDriveLettersFirst as a name. Then modify the value. Enter “4” as the value.

Then close Registry Editor and now your machine needs a restart for applying changes.

That’s all!
