Windows 8.1 has been released and there are tons of procedures to upgrade your existing Windows version to this brand new bug-free (hope so) Windows version, Windows 8.1. Although you can still use the consumer preview version but I would recommend you to upgrade your PC to this latest version.
However, that is a different story. You know that Windows PowerShell and Command Prompt are two different and most essential features of any Windows computer. You can do almost everything by making use of these two things. The only thing that you need is expert knowledge on them. Using of Command Prompt is bit easy than PowerShell. So, most of the people want to use that instead of DOS.
If you have used Windows 8, you might familiar with Win + X menu, which is helpful for busy people who want to access some of most essential Windows features like Control Panel, Power Options, Event Viewer, Disk Management and so on.
Windows 8.1 offers Windows PowerShell normal and admin version in that Win + X menu. However, if you don’t need it anymore – if you use Windows Command Prompt rather than PowerShell, you can replace this Windows PowerShell with Command Prompt. By doing so, you will be able to open command prompt from this Win + X menu, which is very useful, instead of searching for cmd.
How to show command prompt instead of Windows PowerShell?
This is however very easy and you don’t have to install any third-party software to make this change. Windows 8.1 allows this replacement.
Right click on Taskbar and select Properties.
Navigate through Navigation tab and pick out the option that says Replace Command Prompt with Windows PowerShell in the menu when I right-click the lower-left corner or press Windows key + X. Then remove the tick.
Now make sure your changes.
That’s all!
