Windows computer does not have any such built-in feature to check and monitor hard-disk performance. Hard-disk is a major part of Pc and a healthy hard drive results good pc performance. A pc, using faulty hard drive can result a poor pc speed.
Generally for modern days computers, hard disks use SMART technology to find auto health status of itself. The technology is called Self Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (in a word S.M.A.R.T.). Though hard-disks use such technology, we don’t get any hard-disk alerts due to unavailability of such Windows feature.
In this article I cover two brilliant methods to disclose the status of your computer’s or laptop’s hard disk using S.M.A.R.T. system. You can use a command line method for your Windows PC, you can use third party tool to check and analysis hard disk status either.
Method 1: Check Hard Disk Status Using S.M.A.R.T Command
This is a very easy and brief method to check the hard-drive you are using in your computer. For this you need to apply below mentioned command.
wmic diskdrive get status
Just copy the command, run command box as administrator and paste it there. Press ‘enter’ to get the result.
I thing you will get the result ‘OK’. If any problem will be there in your hard-disk, you will definitely get an error status. As your Windows computer does not notify it automatically to you, you can apply the procedure after regular intervals.
Method 2: Check Your Computer’s Hard Drive Status Using Third-party Tool
CrystalDiskInfo is such a open-source and easy-to-use tool that can show you error message if there is any problem found in your hard disk.
This tool will also display Hard-disk temperature, Allocation size etc. in a formal or in a graphical view. This is a SMART analysis tool to notice smart hard drive status and information. Though this kind of tool sometime fails to deliver right results, yet this is a great utility that I never want to miss out.
