Google to soon launch YouTube Red, a Background Playback Service

Just a year ago, Google had came up with an idea of letting users play the YouTube videos background, so as to enjoy the music on YouTube. Google had named the service as Music Key. It was specifically for music heads, you wanted to enjoy the music on YouTube. But while listening the music from the YouTube app, the music used to pause if you pressed the home screen or changed the active app on Android or an iPhone in the YouTube app. So hence Google came up with this service, that could ensure that users enjoy the music on YouTube, without any restrictions of keeping the screen awake.

And just like Google had rebranded the Play Music All Access to Google Play Music Unlimited, the company is going to do it the same for Music Key. Reportedly Google is making it, YouTube Red, at least that is what the Android Police guys have to say. An Update to the regular YouTube app would include a text that’ll showcase YouTube Red, and this service will allow you to play music in the background.

You will be prompted and notified about the service, once you change the active YouTube app while playing a video, and once when you get back to the YouTube app after that. The change mentioned will be noticeable from YouTube version 10.37.

Though Music Key has been in the Beta version from the past year in India, and this step of Google hints, that this service is ready to launch in India with a new name. Looks that after this launch, the company will be in par with the Apple Music, after a few months when Apple launched their service with such a hype. Google is expected to make an announcement about the service, and the changes it has brought, in the event next week, where the new Android Version, Marshmallow, and also two Nexus device are going to be unveiled.
