Huawei Honor 5C Smartphone Review

Honor is the online only brand of Huawei, and in recent years, Honor devices have gained a lot of positive reviews and great customer base, thanks to their impressive built quality and great performance.

The Honor 5C is latest to come out from the manufacturer and is the Honor 5C a worthy enough successor to the last year’s Honor 4C Android Smartphone? That’s what we are going to find out in this review today.

Honor 5C Smartphone
Build Quality:
The Honor 5C is supposed to be a cheaper variant of the Honor 5X, the manufacturer’s more premium offering. However, the Honor 5C features a metal built similar to the Honor 5X.
However, the display size is smaller at 5.2 inches and has HD resolution. The speaker is housed at the bottom of the device along with the microUSB port for charging and syncing. The device features the 3.5mm audio jack up top, power and volume keys to the right and a SIM tray to the left which also accepts a MicroSD card for storage expansion.

Software:
The device features the latest build from Android, the Android 6 Marshmallow software. As of most of the Smartphone OEM’s out there, Honor also has cranked in their custom user interface, named the Emotion UI. The latest Emotion UI 4.1 runs on the Honor 5C.

Performance:
The Honor 5C features Honor’s in house built Kirin 650 octa core chipset clocked in at 2.0 GHz along with 2 GB of RAM.
The advantage of the home built chipset and latest Android software helps the Honor 5C master all the day to day tasks with ease. However, considering that you can now easily get a device with 3 GB of RAM within the same price range, the RAM capacity of the Honor 5C seems to be a let down.
Anyhow, you should not be feeling any kind of performance let down in terms of multi tasking or gaming, unless you are knowingly pushing your device to its limits.
Battery:
The device features a 3000 mAh non removable battery, which provided the device’s display resolution and chipset power requirements, can easily last you through a whole day. However, the lack of a fast charging option, which most of its competitors offer, is indeed a major let down.
Camera:
The rear and front facing camera combo of the Honor 5C is of 13 MP and 8 MP resolutions respectively. Both the camera sensors having an aperture of f/2.0. All kind of software bells and whistles and present including slow motion video, time lapse video and HDR settings along with many software tweaks to get a better photo and video output off your Honor 5C’s camera.

Both the camera sensors on the Honor 5C performs substantially well, provided there is enough lighting for the camera to capture. However, as the lighting goes dimmer, there is a loss in detail captured.
Still, for the price point at which it sells, the Honor 5C has a very impressive camera performance.
Verdict:
The Honor 5C offers some very premium built quality along with great software experience and impressive hardware. It is indeed a very great upgrade for the ageing Honor 4C from last year. However, considering the competition, we feel that the device skips quite a bit.
As a consumer, if the addition of features like fast charging or more RAM capacity doesn’t bother you, then the Honor 5C is indeed a great buy for Rs. 10,999 in India.
