Looks & Design
The first impression the phone gives is that it is all metal. However, only the frame is metal. The device feels sturdy in hand and at 140 grams and 5.5 inch display, surely feels light for its size. The big size however makes it difficult to use with just one hand. The non-curved, sharp edges don’t make holding it any easier.
The rear of the device doesn’t pack much. There’s just the camera with the LED on the upper portion of the screen and the branding and the speaker grill towards the bottom. The highlight of the device is its 2.5 D curved glass.
Display & Camera
The display sure is under-equipped. At the large 5.5 inch size, the resolution sure could have been more than 720 p. However, the display didn’t fail to impress us. The colors and the sharpness were up to the mark. The blacks however were missing and could have been better.
Talking about the cameras, Coolpad has provided with a duo of 8 MP cameras on the front and the rear. Talking about the front camera first, it has an aperture of f/2.2 and comes with an 83.6 degree field of view. The camera app comes pre-loaded with beauty apps and filters that will make clicking selfies a delight.
The pictures clicked on the rear camera under good lighting were rich in detail and color and so were the one clicked with the front camera. Interestingly, the front camera outshined the rear camera under low light. Some noise creeped into the photos due to obvious reasons but they still were quality rich.

Software & Performance
The device runs Android 6.0 under the Cool UI 8.0 skin which is heavily customized. There’s no app drawer present and you just have 3 home screens to swipe to by default. 3 GB RAM paired with the chipset provided for smooth touch input. Light multi-tasking on the device was handled well, so was switching between running apps. There were lags when the processor was burdened with too many running apps but nothing unbearable.
Our Verdict
Priced at Rs. 6,999 the Coolpad Mega 2.5D offers a good deal. The 8 MP front facing camera is a definite highlight and 3 GB RAM will never let you fall short of processing memory. However, the underclocked MediaTek chipset could have serious performance consequences. Also, the 720 p resolution display could have been replaced by a full HD one, but at this price its the best smartphone out there.
