ASUS ZenFone 3 Laser Review- Decent Smartphone but a bit pricey!

It is quite clear with the approach that Asus is showing that the company is getting ready to take on the big giants in the Smartphone industry. Asus has started selling out Asus ZenFone 3 Laser online. What makes things more clear with regards to the taking on the big players is the fact that the Asus ZenFone 3 Laser was made available with the offline sellers soon after the online launch.

There is no doubt about the fact that the Asus ZenFone 3 Laser is certainly a good choice when it comes to the battle with the big guns. Let us take a look at the features of Asus ZenFone 3 Laser and decide for ourselves.

Display and Size

The Asus ZenFone 3 Laser features a 5.5 inch screen bringing the dimensions up to 149mm x 76mm x 7.9mm and interestingly fits in one hand perfectly. The easy holding feature can be attributed to the 77% screen to body ratio literally making up the entire front of the device its screen. Talking of the screen, the Asus ZenFone 3 Laser 5.5 inch full inch HD glass is well protected by 2.5D Conning Gorilla glass. The full metal body of the Asus ZenFone 3 Laser also gives the device an exquisite look.

The Asus ZenFone 3 Laser 5.5 inch full display sports a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and the color quality looks really good. Thus, in case you love watching videos on your Smartphone, then you are certainly on a roll. The display is also pretty much capable of adjusting the brightness of the screen to facilitate better viewing experience in sunlight.

Specifications

The Asus ZenFone 3 Laser is quite a powerful device at it range of price. The device is loaded with 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocking a speed of 1.4 GHz. This is also integrated with an Adreno 505 graphics and a RAM of 4 GB. This leaves no doubt about the gaming experience the device will lead the users to experience. The Asus ZenFone 3 Laser is also packed with stage space for as much data to store as you want. The inbuilt memory of the device is 32 GB and can be expanded up to 128 GB using MicroSD card. What I did not like was the hybrid SIM slots.

The user will have to choose a SIM card and the MicroSD card. The hybrid SIM slots consist of a nano SIM slot and a micro SIM slot. Apart from the normal specs like Bluetooth 4.2, Wifi 802.11a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi direct, GPS/A-GPS, Glonass, the makers also claim that the Asus ZenFone 3 Laser supports 4G network for both SIM slots, but allows only one to be used at one go. I do not know what help will this have for the users. Asus ZenFone 3 Laser sports a 3000 mAh battery, which the makers claim will be enough for the device.

Camera

I personally have always been a fan of the Asus Zen Pixelmaster technology, which in turn makes me a fan of the camera for all the Asus ZenFone series as well. The Asus ZenFone 3 Laser comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0 supported by dual LED flash. The Asus ZenFone 3 Laser also has an 8 megapixel front camera good enough to capture great selfies for Selfie lovers. The Asus ZenFone 3 Laser has a good interface for the camera as it is for all the devices of the ZenFone series. The camera also features most of the options like HDR, Panorama, Slow motion capture, time Lapse mode, etc.

Operating System and the User Interface

The Asus ZenFone 3 Laser runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is also eligible for future upgrades. The upgraded ZEIN UI also looks pretty good apart of the preinstalled applications that come in with the device. The number of bloatwares are pretty much a concern to me as a lot of the memory will be taken up by them. This for me thus becomes a major disadvantage for the device especially when I have to choose between a SIM card and a microSD card. The Asus ZenFone 3 Laser also comes with some third party applications preinstalled which can certainly be of use to the users.

Overall, I would say ASUS Zenfone 3 Laser is bit pricey and it could have been on a little lower side as compared to its specifications.
