One of the most-awaited smartphone from the Chinese startup OnePlus, the OnePlus 5 is launched in India now. The company launched the device on June 22 just within a week after its worldwide launch. Fans were finally able to experience and even buy few units of OnePlus 5 at these pop-up events held at New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru.
The smartphone went on sale on Amazon.in (as an exclusive) at 4:30pm on June 22. It is also available at OnePlus Store online and at all the OnePlus Experience Stores across the country. The OnePlus 5 has two variants available: a 6 GB RAM/ 64 GB ROM variant at Rs. 32,999 and a 8 GB RAM/ 128 GB ROM variant at Rs. 37,999. There is a considerable difference in between Indian and US/EU pricing.
Regarding specifications of the device, the OnePlus 5 smartphone as advertised seems to come with really great features. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 MSM8998 SoC clocked at 2.45 GHz (four cores clocked at 2.45 GHz and four cores clocked at 1.9 GHz). It is an octa core processor that is coupled with a 6 GB or 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The internal storage offered is either 64 GB or 128 GB. The display of the smartphone is a 5.5 inch Full HD Optic AMOLED panel with capacitive touchscreen. It offers 401 ppi and a range of DCI-P3 colours for colour accuracy.
On the back, the OnePlus 5 has an interesting dual-camera setup with a 20 megapixel and another 16 megapixel camera. This makes it the highest resolution dual-camera system on a smartphone till date. It also has a 16 megapixel front facing camera. The device is powered by a 3300mAh non-removable Li-Po battery and it comes with all the regular features including NFC, dual-band Wi-Fi, A-GPS, 3.5 mm audio jack, USB Type-C 2.0 port and Bluetooth 5.0. It has dual-SIM capability with 4G LTE network support too. It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat based OxygenOS 4.5.2. The device measures 154.2×74.1×7.25mm, and weighs just 153 grams.
As for design, the smartphone seem to have improved overall. It still looks like similar in the front and now the back panel looks a little like an iPhone 7 Plus due to the horizontal camera compartment at the top corner. The OnePlus branding is still there at the center. The device is made of anodized aluminum and it is slimmer than any other OnePlus smartphone.
Amazon has launch offers for the phone at their shop where they offer 10 GB of data per month at the price of 1 GB for 5 months for the customers. Postpaid customers of Vodafone get 9 GB data for 5 billing cycles if they are on any plans with 1 GB data or more. Vodafone Red users with 4G will get 10 GB extra data per month for next 3 months on top of this offer.
Also, SBI credit and debit card holders can get Rs. 1500 cashback while buying OnePlus 5. One can also exchange for up to Rs. 1000 until June 28 across all authorised retailers. Kindle users can get promotional Rs. 500 credit while purchasing OnePlus 5 between June 22 and July 31. Every OnePlus 5 smartphone customers are eligible for 12 month accidental damage insurance by Servify if they download Kotak 811 savings account and activate it with an initial deposit of Rs. 1000.
The OnePlus 5 is the costliest OnePlus smartphone ever released. It has numerous improvements over the OnePlus 3T and still tries to beat lot of flagship and even premium flagship smartphones from other manufacturers. The price is Rs 32,999 for the 6 GB RAM/ 64 GB ROM variant and Rs. 37,999 forĀ 8 GB RAM/ 128 GB ROM variant.
